Everyone who is thinking about traveling in the USA knows this: hotels in the USA are expensive.
But, there definitely are affordable hotels in the USA and some affordable hotel chains.
I have spent a lot of time in the United States over the past three years and stayed at a wide range of accommodation types. I had heard about Extended Stay America before, mainly from people looking to stay in the same place for more than just a few days, which is what I normally do as well. So it was about time to give them a try to see if this might be a good affordable hotel option in the USA.

This is one of the most spacious hotel rooms I have stayed in in the USA! With a sofa, a comfortable chair, a kitchen and a small dining table it is definitely more comfortable to spend an extended stay here than it is in your standard hotel room. The beds were large and extremely comfortable, with great pillows. Additionally our room had a nice (albeit distant) view of the Las Vegas Strip, which is where all the famous casinos are located. Unfortunately the room itself was a bit dated and not as clean as I would expect.
The hotel offers a nice lobby and cozy breakfast area. The grab-and-go breakfast is very basic: coffee, tea, oatmeal and some energy bars. But, with a kitchen in your room you could always decide to cook your own breakfast. The fitness center is small but it is a nice extra feature and so is the swimming pool. The hotel offers ample free parking.
There is free internet in the hotel but unfortunately this free internet is slow and if you are combining work and travel as I mostly do, you might want to pay the extra fee for their high speed internet.
What I liked most about the hotel is that although it is part of a large hotel chain it doesn’t have that corporate, formal feel to it. The staff was extremely friendly and informal, making you feel right at home. And especially during longer stays this is something I really appreciate.
The hotel is located only a 10 minute drive from both the airport and the Las Vegas Strip. It is also just a 15 minute drive from downtown Las Vegas. Especially if you are in Las Vegas not just to hang around on the Strip then this location and its easy parking is perfect.
Prices start around $75 per night. This doesn’t make it the cheapest hotel in Las Vegas but it is still one of the more affordable options. The additional benefits of having your own kitchen and a more spacious room make it good value for money. And, if you are looking to stay for a week or more Extended Stay America offers good discounts.
Hotel review conclusion: A hotel chain perfect for longer stays
Is Extended Stay America the best budget hotel chain in the USA? I’m not sure, mainly because I haven’t tried enough budget hotels in the USA yet. But, I think Extended Stay America is a great option if you are looking for a longer stay in the same place. Having the option to cook and a spacious room to spend more time in is worth a lot when you spend weeks or months staying in hotels.
Although this particular hotel could do with some updating I loved the staff because of how welcome and at home they made me feel. And, Extended Stay America definitely shows that there are affordable hotels in the USA.
About Extended Stay America – Affordable hotel chain in the USA
Extended Stay America is known for its friendly staff and the practical touches that make being away from home easier. They offer family-friendly (kids stay free) and pet-friendly hotel suites in over 600 locations throughout the United States, with long-stay hotels in most major cities. All their hotels offer spacious suites with a fully equipped kitchen, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, free grab-and-go breakfast and on-site laundry facilities. Whether you’re traveling for business, looking for temporary or corporate housing, needing short-term housing during relocation, or planning a weekend getaway, they are a budget hotel chain in the USA well worth considering, with discount weekly and long-term rates.
Unlike many other hotel chains in the USA Extended Stay America doesn’t offer loyalty programs that end up costing you 5-10% extra just to cover the expenses of those programs. This helps keep their prices lower than that of most other hotel chains.
And, something I love about Extended Stay America: they are a supporter of the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge program. Extended Stay America provides 40,000 hotel rooms to cancer patients so that they can focus on what’s important – getting well.
