My Experience Flying with Etihad

I’ve flown with Etihad Airways several times now, and I have to say, it’s one of my favorite airlines.
My most unforgettable flight was in business class from Amsterdam to Abu Dhabi—what an experience! From the moment I stepped on board, everything felt so luxurious. The lie-flat seats, amazing food, and incredible service made me wish the flight could have lasted longer. Seriously, how often can you say that about flying?

Most of my travels are in economy class though, and Etihad still stands out there too. The seats are comfortable and feel more spacious than I’ve experienced with many other airlines. I especially love the adjustable headrests—they’re such a simple thing, but they make a long flight much better.
And while we’re talking about long flights, Etihad’s inflight entertainment is very good. They’ve got a huge selection of movies, TV shows, and even games, so there’s always something to keep you entertained.
And the food! I know airline meals don’t have the best reputation, but Etihad really gets it right. The meals I’ve had were genuinely tasty, and they offer good options for different dietary needs, like vegetarian or vegan.
Another thing I’ve noticed every time I fly with them is how great the cabin crew is. They’re always so friendly and professional. It’s those little details that make a flight just a little more comfortable.
Why Choose Etihad Airways?
1. Global Destinations

Etihad flies to over 90 destinations across the globe, making it easy to plan trips to places like Southeast Asia, Europe, or even Australia.
If you’re eyeing a long-haul flight and want a reliable airline, Etihad has a strong network that gets you where you need to go.
And if your trip includes a stopover in Abu Dhabi, it’s worth taking advantage of their stopover program. Instead of just rushing through the airport, you can turn your layover into a chance to explore Abu Dhabi for a day or two.
I’ve done this once and really enjoyed getting to visit Abu Dhabi, nearly for free! Etihad’s Abu Dhabi stopover program offers discounted or even free hotel stays. So not only do you get to relax in between your flights, you also get to experience a new destination.
You can find more information about their Abu Dhabi stopover here.

2. Comfort in Every Cabin

Economy class with Etihad is honestly a step above many other airlines. The seats are roomy enough to stretch out a bit, and small details like USB ports and adjustable headrests make a long flight easier.
Plus, as I mentioned before, the meals are surprisingly decent for airplane food—something I didn’t expect but definitely appreciated.
If you ever get the chance to fly business class, though, it’s a whole different experience. It definitely left a lasting impression for me. From the lie-flat seats to the quiet, relaxing atmosphere, it’s more like a luxury hotel in the sky.
3. Safety First
This is one of those things you don’t really think about until you’re on a plane, but knowing Etihad’s solid safety record definitely gives me peace of mind.
They’re known for their modern fleet and strict safety protocols and are ranked as one of the safest airlines in the world.
How to Find the Best Deals with Etihad Airways
Finding great deals on flights doesn’t have to be complicated. Over the years, I’ve learned a few tricks to save money when booking with Etihad:
- Take Advantage of Promotions: Keep an eye out for seasonal sales. These offers are a perfect chance to save on your next trip, especially if your dates are flexible.
- Make the Most of Etihad Guest Miles: If you fly regularly, join Etihad’s frequent flyer program, Etihad Guest.
You can use miles to reduce the cost of your ticket or upgrade your seat. And, you can use miles as well to book hotels, buy a wide range of products through Etihad’s online shop or, which I think is a nice touch, donate some miles to charity.
- Be Flexible with Travel Dates: Prices often drop mid-week or during off-peak travel times. If you can avoid weekends and holiday rushes, you’ll likely find cheaper fares.
Taking just a bit of time to plan ahead or adjust your dates can make a big difference to your budget. Plus, flying with Etihad means you’re not compromising on comfort—even when you snag a great deal.
Final Thoughts
Flying with Etihad has always been a positive experience for me. From the little details that make long-haul flights more comfortable to the friendly service that always feels a bit more personal, Etihad stands out as one of my favorite airlines.
If you’re considering booking with them, I’d say go for it—especially if you can take advantage of one of their promotions.
Whether it’s a cultural escape to Japan, a sun-soaked holiday in Thailand, or a quick city break in Dubai, Etihad offers a smooth and comfortable travel experience to get you there.
