The Most Romantic Caribbean Islands to Visit

What are the most romantic islands in the Caribbean? If you are looking for a romantic getaway, let me share with you five islands to consider and why.

I’ve been coming to the Caribbean since 2008 and would say that the islands have a lot to offer different types of travelers. But, some islands are better for a romantic vacation than others.

In this article I want to share with you five romantic destinations in the Caribbean that are perfect for a couple’s getaway.

The Most Romantic Caribbean Islands to Visit

Whether for a honeymoon or a romantic vacation, consider these Caribbean destinations and let me share with you what they have to offer.

1. Turks and Caicos

One of many beautiful beaches and luxury resorts in the Turks and Caicos

The Turks and Caicos is located just southwest of the Bahamas. It’s a tropical archipelago made up of 40 islands and cays, of which only eight are inhabited.

If you’re looking for a luxury romantic getaway, then you’ll want to consider Turks and Caicos.

With its crystal clear, turquoise waters and white sand beaches it’s easy to understand why these Caribbean islands are a great romantic destination.

Water and beach activities are what it’s all about here. From sipping a cocktail on some of the most beautiful beaches you’ve ever seen to spotting dolphins, sharks, rays, turtles and whales while snorkeling or spending the day on a boat.

If you love watersports, you’ve come to the right place. Go kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, kiteboarding, parasailing, or wakeboarding.

But, if you love good food, and especially if you love seafood, you’re in good hands here as well. Whether you’re looking for traditional local food or some of the best sushi you’ve ever tasted, you can find it here.

Book a romantic champagne sunset cruise, take a tour of Providenciales, and go horseback riding. Or just relax, and enjoy your romantic getaway on these idyllic islands.

There are plenty of beautiful resorts to choose from or you can rent a villa if you want more privacy.

2. Curaçao

The island of Curaçao is perhaps one of the lesser-known Caribbean destinations, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth visiting.

Curaçao is famous for its vibrant blue waters, lively beaches, and high-quality restaurants. It is also famed for its colonial architecture filled with tropical pastel hues and relaxed upscale charm.

If you love snorkeling, scuba diving, lively beach bars, and fine dining, then Curaçao might be the perfect romantic Caribbean island for you.

Curaçao is drier than many of the other islands in the Caribbean. And that has some pros and cons. It makes it a lot less likely that your planned activities get ruined by tropical rain, but it also makes Curaçao look a lot drier. But, there is something unique about the combination of cacti and palm trees.

There are many things I love about Curaçao as a romantic destination but let’s start with the capital, Willemstad. While many of the smaller Caribbean islands have a capital city that has little to offer visitors, that is very different in Curaçao.

In fact, Willemstad is on the UNESCO World Heritage list because of its well-preserved historic center, and its colorful houses have become world famous.

Visit the city’s museums, or just walk around the charming historic center, admiring the architecture, enjoying some shopping, and stopping for a drink on the many nice terraces.

Don’t stay in Willemstad though. The true beauty of Curaçao is on its beaches and underwater.

Whether you’re looking for a lively beach with a trendy beach bar that makes you feel like you’re in Ibiza, or prefer a more low-key beach where you can snorkel with turtles, Curaçao offers it all.

If you scuba dive, definitely plan a few dives during your getaway. But otherwise, snorkeling is also beautiful around Curaçao.

Rent jet skis, go kayaking, or book a boat trip. But if you only do one thing while in Curaçao, definitely make it a visit to Klein Curaçao. This small island off the coast of Curaçao is gorgeous and a perfect, romantic day trip.

And then, my other favorite thing about Curaçao; its incredible selection of good restaurants. From upscale romantic restaurants to lively restaurants directly on the beach, it’s impossible not to find numerous restaurants you’ll love.

The island has been a Dutch colony for a long time and that still shows. If you’ve ever been to Europe, perhaps even to The Netherlands, you’ll notice the Dutch influences. The island feels both Caribbean and European. And that includes the food, which ranges from traditional local dishes to upscale European food including some Dutch favorites.

The interior of Curaçao is worth exploring as well, with its desert-like scenery. Rent a car or go on an ATV tour to see the island’s interior, or hike up Christoffel mountain, the highest point of Curaçao.

Curaçao offers a wide range of accommodations to choose from for your romantic vacation. From adorable B&Bs and private vacation rentals to great resorts.

Saint Lucia markets itself as a romantic destination and that shows. The island offers a wide range of stunning resorts, romantic restaurants, and tours that are perfect for couples.

If you want to get away from it all and have a romantic stay in a beautiful resort (definitely check out Jade Mountain Resort) then Saint Lucia is perfect. But, Saint Lucia is more than that.

The islands’ nature is some of the most lush I’ve seen on any of the smaller Caribbean islands.

Apart from spending time on beautiful beaches, you can enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, a visit to sulphur springs, snorkeling, scuba diving, and zip-lining.

And you have to admire the majestic Pitons, two volcanic spires, 798 m (2,619 ft) and 743 m (2,438 ft) high, rising side by side from the sea.

If you’re adventurous enough you can climb the Pitons but for the rest of us just admiring them from a distance is a very memorable experience!

Book a private island tour to get to know the beauty of the island and its people.

Go on a romantic catamaran cruise to enjoy the island’s incredible coastline. And if you can, make sure your cruise takes you past the Pitons.

Anyone looking for a romantic destination with beautiful tropical flora and fauna should consider visiting St. Lucia.

4. Antigua

Antigua is one of two islands in the Caribbean that make up Antigua and Barbuda.

Many tourist attractions on this island paradise offer a relaxing romantic backdrop for your next vacation.

Antigua is a popular sailing destination and is known as the island that has a beach for every day of the year. That’s right, 365 beaches on one single island.

Sailors will love Antigua, beach lovers too and if you’re looking for a luxury getaway, then there are some incredible resorts to stay at.

If you’re interested in history, the island is dotted with forts, which make for good workouts if you want to walk up to them, and stunning views when you get there.

And when it comes to stunning views you simply can’t beat the iconic Shirley Heights for sunset.

Check out the bustling capital of St. John’s or venture to the English Harbour for a view of some of the local boats and Spanish-inspired architecture.

Those with a taste for delicious food should try the excellent dishes sourced from locally grown products such as sweet potatoes, corn, spices, and more.

5. The Cayman Islands

A romantic getaway to the Caribbean

The Cayman Islands consist of three islands.

Grand Cayman, which is the largest island, is known for its great beach resorts and diverse range of scuba diving and snorkeling sites. Cayman Brac is a popular starting point for deep-sea fishing excursions and offers some good hiking. Little Cayman, the smallest island, is home to diverse wildlife, from endangered iguanas to seabirds such as the red-footed boobies.

Book a trip to Stingray City to see more stingrays in one place than you probably ever have. Or check out all the starfish at Starfish Point. And, which I found very romantic, plan a bioluminescence snorkeling tour one evening.

Visit the Crystal Caves or go to Georgetown, the capital, for a day. Georgetown has lots of restaurants, shops with a little something for everyone, and a National Museum that’s worth visiting.

Every place you’d decide to stay in the Cayman Islands offers scenic views and a great place to either relax or enjoy a more active romantic vacation. Check it out and consider it for a romantic getaway.
