Are you thinking about spending your honeymoon in Asia but don’t know where exactly yet? Then you’ve come to the right place!
I love Asia and think it’s a perfect part of the world to spend your honeymoon. Whether you’re looking for luxury tropical resorts, an authentic immersion into local culture, stunning beaches, or places with a rich history, you can find that and so much more in Asia.
Add to that the great hospitality and delicious food and it isn’t hard to see why Asia has some of the best honeymoon destinations in the world.
Weddings are wonderful, but when it’s your own they can certainly be stressful! A honeymoon is the perfect way to shut off from the outside world, unwind from all the wedding build-up, and make time for just the two of you.
Whether you want to spend your honeymoon wining and dining, relaxing on a tropical beach, or trekking through a beautiful mountain range, this list will help you decide what’s your best destination for a perfect honeymoon in Asia.
The Best Honeymoon Destinations in Asia
1. Thailand

Thailand is possibly the most popular honeymoon destination in Asia, and for very good reasons.
Thailand’s friendly people, delicious food, and diverse range of places to visit make it a great destination for any type of honeymoon.
Want to stay in a luxury beach resort? You can find numerous ones in Thailand. Prefer a bustling city? Bangkok is possibly one of the best in Asia. Want to get away from it all? Go to Northern Thailand.
I could talk about Thailand for hours. It has a lot to offer and is such an easy country to travel around in.
One downside though: it’s by no means a hidden gem. Thailand receives millions of tourists a year, simply because it is such a beautiful country to visit. It’s a bucket list destination for many people.
Thailand’s Honeymoon Hotspot: Koh Samui

If you’re thinking about a honeymoon in Thailand you’re probably thinking about spending it, or at least part of it, on a tropical island. And then Koh Samui is the go-to island.
More than any other island in Thailand I would say Koh Samui is perfect for couples. It offers those perfect white sandy beaches we all dream of, a great range of high-quality hotels or private villas to rent, and also plenty to do.
Koh Samui is great for snorkeling and diving but you can also go into the jungle on a quad bike, spend the afternoon at a spa, or book a romantic sunset cruise.
For foodies, the island offers anything from local street food to high-end restaurants.
But in short: it’s just a stunningly beautiful island with plenty to do, but also plenty of opportunities to relax and be in the moment. I would absolutely recommend it as one of the best honeymoon destinations in Asia!
Tip: if you want to see a different side of Thailand as well, away from the tropical beaches and popular resorts, I highly recommend visiting Chiang Mai and the lush green countryside around it. There are direct flights from Koh Samui to Chiang Mai.

2. Vietnam

Despite its tumultuous history, Vietnam is now viewed as a honeymooner’s paradise.
Whether it’s the lush, terraced rice fields or the idyllic beaches; the landscapes are as varied as they are awe-inspiring. Alongside the breathtaking landscapes, the atmospheric lantern-lit streets, ancient temples, and local festivals all make for a culturally enriching experience that can be shared together.
Then of course there’s the food! An abundance of street food stalls and beachside restaurants all serve as a great location for a romantic meal for two.
Vietnam’s Honeymoon Hotspot: Halong Bay

Halong Bay is synonymous with captivating natural beauty and is bound to create lasting memories for newlyweds.
The unique beauty of the bay features thousands of towering limestone karsts and islets surrounded by emerald waters, which make this a natural wonder worthy of a UNESCO World Heritage listing.
The most popular thing to do here is going on a cruise to really get to experience the beauty of Halong Bay up close. You can book a day cruise, but since this is your honeymoon I highly recommend booking a multi-day cruise. Some cruises offer quite stunning luxury cabins, fine dining, and private balconies- perfect for sharing a beautiful sunset over the bay.
If your honeymoon is long enough I do recommend traveling around Vietnam after a few days in Halong Bay. There’s a wide range of honeymoon packages you can book, but Vietnam is also an easy and safe country to travel around independently.

3. Indonesia

The sprawling archipelago of Indonesia is awash with waterfalls, forests, and secluded coves.
When honeymooning in Indonesia, couples can trek through the jungle, spend time on one of the beautiful beaches, or soak up the rich cultural heritage of the temples and traditional ceremonies.

Indonesia’s Honeymoon Hotspot: Bali

Without a doubt, Bali is the go-to honeymoon destination in Indonesia.
In fact, it won Tripadvisor’s 2024 Travelers Choice Award for best honeymoon destination in the world.
Bali is often called the Island of the Gods due to its breathtaking natural beauty. It is home to some of the most picturesque beaches in the country and its geography of rice terraces and volcanic landscapes make for quite the romantic backdrop!
There are plenty of romantic dining options- such as beachside restaurants where you can dine together under the stars or whilst watching one of Bali’s famous sunsets.
If you’re an active couple who doesn’t want to spend all day lounging on the beach, there are plenty of opportunities here. Explore the underwater world together snorkeling or scuba diving, go hiking, biking, kitesurfing, etc.
Bali is also great because it caters to a wide range of travelers. You can find lively beaches with a party vibe. But also secluded high-end resorts, beautiful villas to rent, or adorable, locally run guest houses. The rice terraces are stunning, the Buddhist temples are impressive and the relaxed island vibe is perfect for a honeymoon.
My favorite place in Bali is Ubud, which I highly recommend visiting, or even staying in for a few days.

4. India

India is a country of many contrasts, and for many, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime destination.
It’s not your typical honeymoon destination and that gives it a certain appeal.
Of course the food is a major highlight, and the country is about as diverse as any country gets.
Having lived in India and traveled around I can say it’s not the easiest country to travel in. But it’s one of those countries that leaves a lasting memory, which is why it can be a great honeymoon destination.
India’s Honeymoon Hotspot: Goa

Goa is a popular destination for couples, offering a good mix of beaches, culture, and cuisine.
Local beaches like Calangute and Baga Beach provide romantic settings for couples to enjoy sunsets and leisurely strolls.
Don’t expect the typical tropical, white sandy beaches though. For that, Thailand, the Philippines, and the Maldives are better destinations. But Goa’s beaches have their own charm.
The state’s multicultural heritage is reflected in its colonial churches and vibrant night markets, offering unique experiences.
Goa’s cuisine is great, blending Indian and Portuguese flavors.
The region also caters to those seeking tranquility, with numerous yoga retreats and spas in serene surroundings. Much of the state is covered in luscious green forests and a vast mountain range. This land is full of biodiversity and home to an array of exotic birds and other wildlife.
At the same time, Goa is known for its lively nightlife, providing opportunities to enjoy music and dance in beach clubs and bars.
India is unique and I find it hard to describe what traveling in India is like. It can be intense and overwhelming at times. But if you’re up for that, India can offer a very special honeymoon.
Tip: If you’d like to travel around more and love stunning nature I would recommend Kerala as a beautiful part of India to spend your honeymoon. In this article I describe the highlights of Kerala, including the best places to visit and things to do.
And yes, if you go to India on your honeymoon you could definitely add a visit to the Taj Mahal to your itinerary. But I wouldn’t spend too much time in Delhi. In fact, the last time I was in India I added the Taj Mahal as a final stop by flying into Delhi, taking a private tour to the Taj Mahal, and leaving to fly home the next day.
Yes, Delhi has plenty to offer, but it’s not a city I’d recommend for a honeymoon.
5. UAE
If I have to pick a honeymoon destination in Asia for anyone who loves cities and the finer things in life, The United Arab Emirates (UAE) are the first place that comes to mind.
High-end hotels, fine dining, incredible spas, and impressive architecture is just part of what the UAE has to offer. There’s also a vast desert to adventure in, palm tree lined beaches, and crystal-clear waters.
The UAE is also a great choice if you’re having a winter wedding but still want some honeymoon sun as the weather remains warm all year round, and is actually more pleasant in winter.
UAE’s Honeymoon Hotspot: Dubai

Out of the different Emirates, Dubai is the one with the most to offer, by far.
If you have planning fatigue from the wedding, heading to Dubai is a great choice as everything is relatively close together and there are a myriad of things to do together that don’t require too much planning ahead.
Dubai is ideal for those who enjoy the finer things in life as the city is home to several luxury hotels, designer shops and boutiques, and a world-class dining scene.
But, don’t think that a honeymoon in Dubai has to cost a fortune. There are plenty of more affordable hotels and activities that will still give you the great Dubai experience. In fact, the first couple of times I visited Dubai I was on quite a tight budget and was actually surprised that Dubai isn’t as expensive as I feared.
If you’re more of an adrenaline-seeking couple, Dubai offers plenty of opportunities to try some adventurous sports and activities including skydiving, dune bashing, and even indoor skiing!

6. Cambodia

Cambodia has all the stunning scenery of its neighboring countries but far fewer crowds.
A visit to Cambodia is a unique experience, largely due to its incredible history and contrasting landscapes.
Full of palm-shaded beaches, Buddhist pagodas, and forests teeming with wildlife including elephants, it is a particularly magical place for a honeymoon.
I visited Cambodia after having spent several weeks in Thailand, and the contrast was refreshing. It’s a lot less developed than Thailand making it feel more authentic.
Cambodia is a great honeymoon destination if you’re looking for a slower pace and love discovering a country’s history and culture.
Cambodia Honeymoon Hotspot: Koh Rong

While Angkor Wat is perhaps the first place that comes to mind when you think of visiting Cambodia, there’s a perfect island for honeymooners in the form of Koh Rong. This pristine island, located in the Gulf of Thailand, is a paradisiacal escape for a romantic honeymoon.
Koh Rong does receive its fair share of backpackers, but compared to the neighboring islands in Thailand it’s like stepping back in time. A laid-back, simple island to relax and just enjoy the moment.
The island offers beautiful white-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters, creating that picturesque setting for honeymooners. Go to Long Beach to enjoy intimate beachfront dinners, leisurely walks, and idyllic sunsets.
Koh Rong is by no means packed with hotels but it does offer a nice range of accommodations from luxurious resorts to eco-friendly bungalows.
Explore the island’s vibrant coral reefs while snorkeling, go kayaking through the island’s mangrove forests, or hike to a waterfall.
Koh Rong’s laid-back atmosphere and breathtaking natural beauty make it an ideal honeymoon destination. And it’s also one of the cheapest honeymoon destinations on this list.
If you want more tranquility, visit the neighboring island Koh Rong Samloem. If you go to Koh Rong Samloem, and you’re a bit adventurous, hike to Sunset Beach, one of the best beaches in the world, for a memorable sunset.
And yes, if you plan your honeymoon to Cambodia, I do highly recommend visiting Angkor Wat as well. It’s stunning!

7. Sri Lanka

If you love trying delicious local food, friendly people, beautiful nature, and an island that’s relatively easy to explore independently, Sri Lanka might be your perfect honeymoon destination in Asia.
This beautiful island, just south of India, is also a perfect place for the animal-loving couple. An abundance of national parks provide sanctuary for all kinds of wildlife including sloth bears, sambar, leopards, and of course plenty of elephants.
And even though it’s an island, there is certainly a lot to do particularly when it comes to the country’s diverse geography; you can climb mountains, surf on some world-class shores, and trek through the jungle, all in the same day!
Sri Lanka’s Honeymoon Hotspot: Bentota

I’ve been to Sri Lanka quite a few times and traveled all around the country. And I struggle to pick just one honeymoon destination.
What is so great about Sri Lanka is the diverse range of places you can visit relatively close together.
So my honeymoon in Sri Lanka I would spend exploring different places.
Bentota can be a good base for a few days because it’s a nice, quiet, and romantic beach destination with some great resorts. In this article I share more about Bentota and its beach resorts.
But then you shouldn’t miss the beautiful, historic town of Galle. Sigiriya Rock is a unique place you can’t miss either, and Sri Lanka’s tea plantations are the perfect backdrop for honeymoon pictures.
So basically what I’m trying to say is that Sri Lanka is a great honeymoon destination if you want to travel around and explore different places with ease.
There are good honeymoon packages you can book for Sri Lanka, but you can also easily explore it on your own. Every hotel or guesthouse you’ll stay at will be happy to help you with recommendations on where to go and how to get to your next destination.
I’ve written a detailed article about places in Sri Lanka I recommend visiting, and places I think can be skipped.

Tip: Combine Traveling Around Sri Lanka With a Few Days in a Tropical Island Resort in the Maldives

I know, you might have expected the Maldives as a prime Asian honeymoon destination on this list. But I chose not to.
I lived in the Maldives and have been fortunate enough to visit quite a few luxury resorts that are popular with honeymooners. And I completely understand why.
Not often have I been to a place so peaceful, pristine, and stress-free as those private island resorts.
But, unless you’re entire honeymoon is only four days long, I wouldn’t recommend spending all of it in the Maldives. The resorts are incredible and something that can make your honeymoon absolutely memorable. But you’re also stuck on a tiny tropical island. So I would say, choose one resort that fits your budget and spend 3 nights there. Maximum 4.
And then spend the rest of your honeymoon exploring Sri Lanka, which is only a short and cheap flight away.

8. Japan

Japan is the perfect blend of ancient tradition and contemporary, modern living making for a particularly unique honeymoon.
A visit in spring when the beautiful cherry blossoms are in bloom is particularly romantic. And the ancient temples, hot springs, and serene gardens provide a great way for couples to quietly connect.
Contrast this with the exciting technology and modern urban living of cities such as Tokyo and it’s easy to see why many people are choosing to honeymoon in Japan.
And I think the culinary scene in Japan needs no introduction! While away the hours whilst sharing a kaiseki (a traditional multi-course dinner), some sushi, or even taking part in an elegant tea ceremony.

Japan’s Honeymoon Hotspot: Kyoto

I love Tokyo, and it’s worth visiting, but as the perfect honeymoon destination, I’d pick beautiful Kyoto.
Kyoto is the former capital of Japan and is centrally located on the main island of Honshū.
Just a 2-hour bullet train ride away from the bustling capital Tokyo, Kyoto is the perfect place to experience rural Japan and traditional Japanese culture. It is home to several Geisha districts as well as thousands of ancient temples, shrines, and traditional tea rooms.
For a memorable honeymoon experience, stay in a traditional ryokan.
Visit an onsen, a Japanese hot spring, for another unique and memorable experience.
Kyoto is home to many traditional festivals, so if you can plan your honeymoon to coincide with one of the festivals I’d highly recommend that.
And, venture out into nature, because Japan is much more than its cities.

9. China
Like India, China’s vastness and diversity can make it tricky to know where to start. In very simple terms think of it as the north equals culture and history, and the south equals more natural beauty.
The weather also varies hugely. In the northern provinces, winters can get very cold whilst the summers are hot but not unbearable. In the southernmost cities, it tends not to drop below 68ºF (20ºC) even in January but in the summer the heat can become stifling.
China’s Honeymoon Hotspot: Lijiang

Lijiang Old Town, also known as Dayan Old Town is located in the Yunnan Province of southwestern China. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, this well-preserved ancient town is steeped in history and culture.
Characterized by its traditional Naxi architecture, Lijiang is full of stone bridges, and beautifully decorated water-wheel-driven canals making the perfect backdrop for a romantic honeymoon.
Winding cobbled streets are aligned with a wealth of shops, cafés, restaurants, and snack stalls, to explore. But do be aware that these get very congested during peak times.
The surrounding area of Lijiang is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, and if you enjoy hiking then a hike along the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is highly recommended. Or take the cable car up and just enjoy the view instead.
If you want to see more of China I’d recommend booking a honeymoon package, because that will make traveling around the country a lot easier. Plus, with the language barrier, a guided trip will give you access to places and information that are hard to get on your own.

10. The Philippines

With over 7,000 islands, the Philippines is an incredible honeymoon destination.
I still remember being very surprised the first time I visited the Philippines. Despite all its islands, it’s very easy to travel around, the people are very friendly and there are just so many beautiful places to explore.
Whether you want to hike through the jungles, do some island hopping, or simply relax together on some of the world’s best beaches, honeymooners are spoilt for choice!
The Filipino people are renowned for their warmth, kindness, and hospitality, and will go out of their way to make sure you feel extra special on your honeymoon.
Tip: in the Philippines, and in most of Asia, I use 12go.asia to find out how to get from point A to point B, and to book ferries, buses, etc.
Honeymoon Hotspot in The Philippines: Palawan

Palawan is a world-renowned destination for its breathtaking landscapes of hills, valleys, and rivers as well as pristine white beaches and crystal-clear waters.
I’d recommend dividing your time between El Nido and Coron. Explore the towns, relax on the beach, book a boat trip, snorkel in crystal clear water, and just enjoy the relaxed island vibe. If you’re a scuba diver, Coron has some incredible diving, including to WWII shipwrecks.
Port Barton is a cute, small, and laid-back beach town I can also highly recommend visiting. And again, The Philippines is such an easy country to travel around in that you’ll have no issues exploring Palawan.
The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is another must-see. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park is the world’s longest underground river and makes for an experience like no other!
